FAQs

Do I need to pre-freeze anything before use?

No. The unit has a built-in compressor, so there’s no pre-freezing required. Just add ingredients and start the cycle.

What’s the difference between the modes?
The unit features 7 dedicated modes, each designed for a specific type of drink or texture:

Ice Cream Mode – Creates soft-serve ice cream with adjustable firmness levels
Slushy Mode – Non-alcoholic frozen drinks like soda or juice with adjustable firmness
Cocktail Slushy Mode – Frozen alcoholic beverages (within proper alcohol range)
Wine Slushy Mode – Designed specifically for wine-based frozen drinks
Coffee Slushy Mode – Ideal for coffee-based frozen drinks with a shorter hold time for best flavor
Cold Drink Mode – Chills beverages without freezing or adding texture
Juice Mode – Designed for chilling juice only (no freezing or firmness control)
Can I adjust the texture?

Yes. Most modes offer 5 firmness levels:

Lower levels = softer texture
Higher levels = thicker, firmer consistency

Can I use solid ingredients like fruit or ice?
No. This machine is designed for liquids only.

Strain fresh juices to remove pulp
Do not add ice, frozen fruit, or chunks
What sugar level is required for slushies?
Your mixture needs at least 6% sugar.
Low sugar mixtures will freeze too hard and may not dispense properly.

Can I make alcoholic slushies?

Yes, but you must stay within proper limits:

Alcohol content should be between 2% and 16%.
If the alcohol level is too high, the mixture will not freeze properly. In that case, dilute it with juice, water, or another non-alcoholic liquid until it falls within the recommended range.
Why is my mixture too hard?
Most common causes:

Not enough sugar
Too much alcohol
Stopping the machine mid-cycle
Why is my mixture too soft?
Increase firmness level
Let it sit briefly in Keep Cool mode before dispensing
Why is the unit making a loud grinding or squeaking noise?
Some noise is normal during operation, but unusual sounds usually point to an ingredient or setup issue.

Normal operation noise: Light mixing, compressor running, or ingredients thickening as they freeze
Grinding sound: Mixture is too thick or partially frozen before starting
Squeaking sound: Mixing blade may be dry, misaligned, or not fully seated
Clogging or strain: Fruit pulp, solid pieces, or overfilled mixture can block flow or strain the motor
Most common cause: Low sugar content. If sugar is below the recommended level, the mixture can freeze too hard, causing stress on the blade and creating grinding or squeaking sounds

If the noise is persistent or unusually loud, stop the machine, unplug it, and check:

Ingredient levels (must be between MIN and MAX)
Sugar content (must be above 6% for proper freezing and texture)
Proper straining of juices and smooth mixtures
Correct assembly of the outlet port and mixing blade
Why does the display show “OPEN”?
The outlet port cover is not properly installed. The machine will not run until it is secured.

Why did the machine pause cooling?
How is it different from a bowl-freeze ice cream maker?

Bowl-freeze machines need 12–24 hours of pre-freezing before each use. The ICS-167 has a built-in compressor; just add ingredients and go.

How does it compare to other compressor ice cream makers?

Most only make churned ice cream. The ICS-167 has 7 modes: soft serve, slushies, cocktail and wine slushies, coffee slushies, cold drink, and juice — and dispenses straight from the machine, no scooping needed.

Is it good for families or single servings?

Both. It holds up to 1.6 quarts for groups, and you can fill to the minimum line for smaller portions.

How long does it take to make soft serve?

Usually 20–40 minutes. Starting with pre-chilled ingredients gets you there faster.
